Andrew Eldricht - 2 Radio Interviews - 1987

Between 1985 and 1990, the Sisters didn't tour, so this interviews are the only audio records I found from that time. It's two radio interviews, one in wich Andrew is invited to choose the songs for the show and to (not)explain his options. The second is mostly centered in trivia around the "Dominion" video clip shoot. Presented in .flac.

The Cure - Richard Skinner Session - 26.02.1981

This is an amazing recording of early versions of songs from the "Faith" album. Some tracks are arguably better than their album counterparts. Lineup: Robert Smith - vocals, guitar, 6-string bass, keyboards; Simon Gallup - bass; Lol Tolhurst - drums, percussion.

The Sisters of Mercy - Coliseu, Lisboa, Portugal - 16.03.2009

Here is the recording of the Lisbon concert, two days ago. It was an excellent concert, light years of distance of the last two gigs the Sisters gave in Portugal. If you were not there, now you can hear what you've missed. The photos are from portalgotico.com, they've some more there and an interview coming soon, go and check them.

It's an audience recording made with a Sony MD - MZ-R91, using a Sony ECM-MS907 stereo mic. The MP3 version is equalized in Final Cut Pro in .aiff format and converted to MP3 320 with FairStars Audio Converter 1.73. The WAV version is mixed in Protools by 667, our thanks to him. It was made by the staff of the Dark Circle Room, we think its a very cool recording, but any comments about the quality are most welcome.
Due to technical problems with the MD the first three songs were not recorded in good conditions, "Ribbons" is beyond repair and "Train / Detonation Blvd" is incomplete.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Coliseu dos Recreios, Lisboa, Portugal - 21.04.2008

Nick Cave in his last visit to Portugal. Very Good Sound. From the taper's text:

So, this is the start of the new tour by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. And as all tour starts it has its moments good and bad. The "bad" one is that the band is not yet in full motion and needs to get tighter on some of the songs. The GOOD one is that a concert by these gentlemen is never a bad concert. And this one was no exception. Mr. Cave on fire delievering the goods as only he knows how. The band folowing him wherever he goes on songs and enjoying themselves even if they looked lost in a few songs as they did on Get Ready For Love. In the end of that song Nick said it was a "fucking disaster" and it was indeed but a funny one. Because Nick was discovering his way through the song and Mr. Harvey was on the side laughing like mad waiting for his partner to make it right. It was hell on the loose... You will find a very talkative Nick accepting requests over the encores. In the end a great opening night with a good setlist including a few surprise songs and i believe a nice recording but i leave that up to you guys to judge.

Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon EP

This was my first Bunnymen record, it has the most absolute perfect live recording of "Do It Clean" with lots of medleys in the middle. By some strange reason this B-side got left out of the bonus tracks on the re-issues of their back catalogue... So here it is.

Note: There is a live version of "Do It Clean" in the playlist of the blog, this one is different and much better...

The Sisters of Mercy - Joseph's Wells, Leeds, UK, - 02.08.2005

Free pre-tour for-fans-only test-out gig, under name of Near Meth Experience. Announced three days before the gig via the official site. "02 August 2005 : NIGHT OFF. We'll be watching Near Meth Experience at a pub in Leeds.", it said. "Near Meth Experience play for free, because they're a shambles. "The band played as New Meth Experience in Leeds in 1996 and 1997. This last concert ended up being reviewed (negatively) on UK's heavyweight music news weekly NME; the reviewer completely missed a point that the gig was free try-out. Everybody thought this was the last of pre-tour freebies. Until now. This might (or might not) have something to do with the fact that the new guitarist Chris May makes ends meet by working at Joseph's Well.

Adam and the Ants - Peel Sessions

I always avoided listening to Adam and the Ants, probably because of the look of native american pirates... But since NIN and Love and Rockets cover their song "Physical", my curiosity was awaken. I searched around and found out that they had made some Peel sessions (another good signal), so I finally heard them. The music is very different from what I expected, it sounds as the missing link between early Siouxsie and Banshees and the Sex Pistols. You should check them out.

SSV - NSMABBAAOTWMODAACOTIATW

From The Sisters of Mercy Homepage

ABOUT SSV (which is not The Sisters Of Mercy or even close)
"SSV are not the Sisters. Their official full name is SSV-NSMABAAOTWMODAACOTIATW.
Could this possibly stand for "Screw Shareholder Value - not so much a band as another opportunity to waste money on drugs and ammunition, courtesy of the idiots at Time Warner"?
Surely not. That would require a comma.
SSV's only album ('Go Figure') features music by P.Bellendir and words by T.Schroeder. It was produced by P.Bellendir in 1997. It does not feature anything by Andrew Eldritch except some sampled vocals.
Because of those sampled vocals, East West bought the record (without having heard it) and agreed to release Andrew from his recording contract. What led them to do such a strange thing, after years of intransigence?
Despite their threats to sue Andrew for not delivering any Sisters records, they were perhaps more worried that a judge would regard a seven year strike as evidence that the contract was dead anyway. So they took what they could get. Andrew has neither the money nor the desire to spend years on a court case, and he was happy to accept immediate freedom on these particular terms. He was very happy for East West to get their SSV record.
Unfortunately for East West, their SSV record is Not Very Good - to put it mildly. It's reasonable to assume that "techno without drums" is designed merely to bore and annoy.
East West have not released the SSV album, but they did send tapes to the press. One copy landed on the internet, so you could pick the album up for free, in MP3 format. Maybe you still can, but of course we wouldn't be allowed to give you the URL if we knew it. We don't think the record's worth downloading, anyway.
We gather that East West have remixed two tracks, but they're not allowed to remix any more. One day, East West may decide to release the SSV album. We can't recommend it.
If you really must have a copy, be advised that some US independent distributor (previous candidates need not apply) might soon be distributing a much better version of the SSV album, with drums. It's still not the Sisters, and it's still a very perverse techno record, but it's a whole lot better than East West's version. Beware the bootlegs on the net, which are just bad (and expensive) copies of the MP3s leaked from East West."
